USS Isis #1-Captain Jade Varisk

Greetings crew. Here's the first and sad to say, last post for the USS Yamato. You'll see in my post changes taking place, and our recomission to the USS Isis. I'll be sending out supplementary information in the next few days regarding this sim, and all questions or concerns you wish to voice, please feel free to contact me.

To the crew of the Nephythys, on behalf of myself and my crew, I would like to say it's an honor to be working with you. I look forward to future posts from all crew members.

On-

"Captain Varisk?"

The voice penetrated the air like a bolt of lightening, striking her ears and sending a small tremor through her limbs. She looked up sharply as her narrowed eyes and cold glare stated plainly her dislike of being interrupted.

A very nervous ensign stood in her doorway, looking ready to turn around and run from her office and her wrath. But he cleared his throat shakily and advanced towards her desk. She couldn't help a tiny smile on her lips as she admired his bravery.

"I was instructed to deliver this to you, Ma'am." He brought into her line of vision a thin device, its screen glowing brightly with the shimmering Starfleet emblem. With a raised eyebrow she accepted the PADD, thanking the ensign with a slight nod.

"Why couldn't this mesage be delivered through the subspace channels?"

Pursing her lips in curiousity, she laid the PADD on her desk and leaned back in her chair.

"I don't know Ma'am, all that's been told to me is that this information is highly confidential and must be seen by your eyes only." A shrug lifted his strong frame of shoulders.

"I would assume it was to ensure the safety of the information."

She nodded again, growing ever more curious of what vital material was stored in the microchips and isolinears of the PADD's storage unit.

"Thank you Ensign, you're dismissed." Making sure to gesture towards the door, the ensign took the hint with a salute and exited the room after a neat turn on his heels.

Jade smiled and rolled her eyes at the fresh new officer's stiff protocol. Ensigns always tended to amuse her with their tight adherence to Starfleet customs and protocols, things that would soon fade of their prominence as the ensigns got a real taste of Starfleet. Because sometimes they didn't like everything that they tasted.

But the animated emblem on the screen caught her attention again, and she picked up the personal data storage unit and began to tap in codes with her slender fingers. Her nails clicked away at the screen, though they weren't very long. Finally, after much verifying and reverifying, the message scrolled onto the screen as Jade skimmed skilled eyes over the words.

"To Captain Jade Varisk:

This transmission is being sent to inform you of the recent and tragic destruction of your newly assigned ship, the USS Yamato, NCC 52985.

As you can see, the tight security measures taken to deliver this information to you makes obvious the need of secrecy with this matter until further investigation sheds more light on this precarious situation.

There is strong evidence of a saboture who planted a lethal explosive onboard the Yamato. Two maintenece teams were killed, and extensive damaged was sustained at Starbase 6 as the entire docking clamp system needs to be rebuilt.

You are hereby given orders directly from Starfleet not to discuss this matter with anyone except the crew that have been assigned to the Yamato with you so far. You and your crew members, who are only a few as of now, are officially reassigned to the USS Isis NCC 51581. The Isis is sister ship to the USS Nephythys, under the command of Captain Ereshkigal Nadaba.

Both the Isis and the Nephythys have been wound up in this situation, and so the Isis and the Nephythys are to join forces. Since the Nephythys is newly commissioned, the number of officially assigned crew members is small, the same problem begets the Isis, as it is being assigned a new crew. However, Starfleet has made arrangements for the Isis and the Nephythys to recieve temporary crew until further officers are assigned to both ships.

You can see the urgency of this mission as viewed by Starfleet Command, which accounts for the rushing of the Nephythys and the Isis to be on their way. Further information will be divulged to yourself and Captain Nadaba as soon as possible."

Jade set the PADD down gently so as not to make it clatter on the desk's surface. Questions wanted to race through her mind and cloud her thoughts in dust. However, she had to keep focused on the present circumstances that were proving themselves to be quite formidable. She scrolled down the rest of the transmission as the PADD rested on her desk. Her eyes caught the key information relays, seeing that she was to get to Starbase 6 within the next 72 hours. Her crew was to meet there, along with the Nephythys crew, to discuss the future of both ships.

Despite her thoughts of the possibility that things might not get worse, Jade felt that uncanny feeling in the pit of her stomach telling her she was in for a rough ride. She pushed her palms against the edge of the desk to be able to scoot her chair backwards. Once there was enough room, she stood up, taking the PADD with her, and headed to her quarters to pack.
