The Starbase Phoenix game has been running for over 8 years (eons in internet time), and has amassed millions of words of original prose set in the Star Trek setting. Read our current posts, or summaries of some of our previous missions, and see how much excitement there is on the other side of the universe:
The recovery and rebuilding of Phoenix proceed apace. Many vacant positions have been filled, as tra'Fitz moved to fill them before Starfleet could fill them for him, although Loran turned down his offer to become Phoenix XO, as Hidalgo was being moved to command The Rock. G'ldraarg is trying to fight the bureaucrasy to foster the young boy he found after the occupation while his mother recovers, while dealing with a new Gorn Ambassador on board Phoenix. And tra'Fitz has started his therapy sessions with Bensu to learn how to deal with all of his recovered memories from his former life as an assassin.
The battle for the liberation of Starbase Phoenix has begun. The first united Federation(Phoenix and Hope 1)/Romulan
(S'Task)/Klingon/DFA(Cromwell) taskforce has warped into Phoenix's system, and started the attack. On the station, the special ops team lead by Travian and Kia Loran made their way to the CNC, only to find that the freed Ssova tra'Fitz got their first, and has Gul Mabek at knife point. The upside is that the station's defenses could not be activated, making the boarding by Federation and DFA Marines much easier; the downside is that tra'Fitz's sanity is in doubt. And, in all the confusion, the crew of the Seiklon Axel is liberating their own ship, and "salvaging" the spoils of war prior to escape.
Everybody has their breaking point – and Captain tra'Fitz's has been passed. After an abnormal amount of time resisting Gul Mabek's inquisition, Ssova tra'Fitz finally cracked. A floodgate of repressed memories and thoughts was opened spilling over into the real world. Memories of a dark and forgotten past came to light, and along with them came the override codes to starbase Phoenix. Bound and broken, the CO has nothing else to do but to weep as the Gul takes full command of the station. Meanwhile at the Omicron Shipyards, repairs on the S'Task are nearly complete. Colonel Hidalgo has learned that the DFA and the Klingons have joined the war against their foes, and in what could be a stroke of good luck, runs in to none other than Captain Dan Forrest of the DFA Cromwell in the Shipyard lounge. In a desperate move, Hidalgo explains his predicament to the Captain, and swallowing all pride, asks for their help in recovering his home. With a promise to think about it, the Captain returns to talk to his crew. On the station, Travian Loran, his wife Kia Bensu and their comrades have met with an underground resistance, sheltered at the Delta hotel which is being run by Bix after Christopher Apple's exile to Horizon. The civilians continue to adapt to life under Cardassian vigilance – with some being more successful at it than others. Will the Rock find a way to return to Phoenix space? Will Loran and his cohorts be able to help? Will Captain Forrest accede to helping the Federation? Will Hidalgo and the fleet be too late?
They say things always have a way of evening out...
The assault on Vondail's Planet started with a grim outlook. Outnumbered the USS Griffin, USS Uller and SES S'Task commenced their attack, quickly eliminating one of the Cardassian warships but soon enough faltering against greater numbers and their strategies hindered by the lethal Ion Cannon located on the planet's moon. As the Griffin began to deploy it's belly full of Marines, a blast from the cannon ripped through her unshielded body, fatally crippling the ship. What could have been a defining moment in the Cardassian's favor, turned out to be the exact opposite. With a bit of skilled piloting, the Griffin managed to crash land, careening into the amassed ground troops of the Cardassians, shifting the favor of the ground battle towards the Romulan/Federation alliance. Shortly after, Rhan'dhyl tr'Hrilliake and his covert team managed to successfully hinder the Ion Cannon's aiming mechanism, causing it to fire upon the origin of its orders rather than the assigned target. Needless to say, upon receiving the order to fire upon the Federation ships, the cannon shot a blast on the Cardassian's command post on the planet, obliterating their control center. Now all that is left is to clean up - two remaining ships orbit the planet, and a few straggling ground forces remain active... victory seems certain. But like I said, things always seem to even out. Back at Phoenix, an invasion fleet of Cardassian Warships has arrived. After using a specialized missile, which dug into the asteroid home the The Rock - the 26th MEF's HQ in the adjacent asteroid field - and propelled it at low warp out of the picture, a full assault on the station began. Shortly after, the lower shields finally succumbed, and allowed numerous assault teams to beam aboard. Deck by deck, department by department, the horde of Cardassians moved forward. Upon realizing his people were fighting a winless fight, Captain tra'Fitz finally accepted the inevitable... He surrendered the station to the Cardassian union and the fleet's leader - Gul Mabek. Fortunately, an emergency plan was activated upon his surrender, causing all sensitive information to be eliminated from the computers, encrypting the vital system controls and sending an order to several beacons to relay an emergency distress call. This system lockout however, has its consequences. In attempt to discover the deactivation codes, Gul Mabek has decided to torture Ssova tra'Fitz. And in a swift opening blow, has cut off the Andorian's antenna, and along with them the Captain's sense of balance and orientation. Yeah, seems even to me...
Preparations
have began for the away mission to Von'dail's planet, and the station
is filled with a strange buzz of expectation, fears and excitement.
Captain tra'Fitz has held a staff meeting with all Junior and Senior officers. After a moving speech and description of the mission, final arrangements are being made to launch the USS Uller, USS Griffin and the SES S'Task. The ships are to make an inicial survey of the situation, and if it is favorable, launch an attack against the Cardassian presence on the planet and destroy or capture all Cardassian assets. Personal feelings fluctuate towards the mission, and each person involved handles them differently. On more specific notes, Lt. Dardeus and constable Moray are in search of Novex Sa Doy, whom has disappeared the day before his wedding to Lt. Dardeus, along with Cicely Autrey a coworker of Novex's at The Delta. Leads have pointed to one, Maxwell Adams, whom had already attempted to abduct Cicely before. Major Travian and Lt. Cdr. Bensu continue on their honeymoon, far away from the crazyness on-station. However, a strange experience on a outdoor hike has given them strange premonitions. Premonitions shared by many on the station. There seems to be a bad feeling preluding this mission.
The
threat of the alien takeover has passed... Lt. Col. Hidalgo and Lt.
G'ldraarg, successfully spring a trap on a large group of infected
engineers plotting to save their queen, quenching the imminent danger
and allowing for security to easily round up the remaining infected and
get them to Drs. Tigarak and Campbell whom were able to come up with a
retrovirus. However, patient zero is found to be Dr. Tigarak's brother,
Narke. He's taken to sickbay, but rejects the anti-virus causing him to
die... Dr. Tigarak blames himself for the death of his brother, and
decides to pay Counselor Bensu a visit.
On the Rock, WO Imza has finished her grueling Marine training, which has taken her on an emotional roller-coaster and shown promise of finding peace as she has bonded with her fellow boots and exorcized some of her personal demons... However a surprise is revealed: all her fellow boots are part of a holodeck program, they're all holograms. The entire process is not a mere `boot-camp' as she thought, but rather a special course, purposely designed to help her through her grief. Captain tra'Fitz, worried about the lack of contact by the away mission, has requested that the USS Uller – Phoenix's soon to be ship-of-the-line – take a slight detour on its way to Phoenix to investigate the away team's situation. Mayor Travian's old friends have arrived, and plans for his wedding to Lt. Bensu are nearly complete. But they are not the only couple to be wed soon, as new transfers Lt. Dardeus and his mate Novex Sa Doy hope to contract nuptials as well!
Drs.
Campbell, Tigarak and Commander Jensen were able to get inside Major
Travian's head, and free him of his mental binds to the alien presence.
They've traced the infection back to T’nor a Vulcan engineer
and incarcerated her. Currently she has been sent to sickbay where the
medical team is working to find a possible cure to the infection.
Simultaneously, Lt. Belasco Delacruz has suffered effects of the alien attack as well. However, his effects are also manifesting themselves physically, causing him to mutate slightly. The Drs. Work frantically to find the cures to these invasions! On the other front, Lt. Col. Hidalgo and Lt. G'ldraarg have gone down to Engineering to investigate the extent of T’nor infection. Along with a security detail, they find several engineers claiming to have been locked into a room by some of their peers that began rambling about some `Queen'. This partial ruse is quickly dropped as several engineers attack the group but are quickly contained. However, the remaining group of about 15 engineers is nowhere to be found, and the pair fear they might be on their way to the brig to rescue T'nor. They race back to the station house via the Jeffrey's tubes and apparently beat the mob there. Immediately they begin to put their plan to trap the infected into action. On the Rock, WO Imza continues her Marine training where finally she's managed to stop the Drill Sergeants from catering to her and treat her like a regular jarhead... But now the real trials begin. The away team continues to find a way out of their predicament on the M class planet 2 weeks of warp away from Phoenix. A small party has gone to investigate the humanoid life form they detected, while another few remain to continue shuttle repairs.
The
tangents of several fates are converging as things become clearer and
lights shine upon doubt. As several more victims of similar attacks are
found throughout the station, Lt. Col. Hidalgo and Major Travian go to
interrogate the main suspect, Dr. Tigarak. After talking to the Dr.
They determine that perhaps it has actually been his twin which
perpetuated the attacks, deciding to release the Dr., Travian
unexpectedly attacks Hidalgo. In an ironic twist of events, an
unconscious Hidalgo is saved by none other than Richard Jensen, the
same man Hidalgo helped expose after attempting to take over the
station with underhanded means!
Now Dr. Tigarak and Jensen are trying to figure out what exactly has happened to Travian that caused him to attack Hidalgo. Helping them is Dr. Mike Campbell, another prisoner which seems to have the spirit of a deceased Vulcan inside his head (long story...). Meanwhile on the USS Griffin, Lt. Gl'draarg is working on a way to `release' the `ghosts' of the deceased maintenance crew that was on the vessel during the Yamamoto attack. These ghosts are actually the crew caught inside small warp bubbles that generated due to the damage suffered whilst maintaining the warp drives... Hence the need for the Gorn Chief Engineer and not an exorcist. On the Rock, CWO3 Kestra Imza is undergoing a specialized boot camp, after returning from her tragic visit to earth, where her child has died only months after the death of both her parents. In a desperate attempt to move past her pain and anger, she's decided to become a Marie, and in her own words "a killing machine". With some level of doubt, Lt. Col. Hidalgo has granted her the chance, and now she's training with a group of misfit and second tier Marines on the Rock. On the civilian front, Tara Fowler is beginning to integrate herself back into society. Apart from regular visits with counselor Bensu (which on her own front is busy planning her wedding with Major Travian), Tara has begun to attend Phoenix elementary. Though she seems out of place due to her age, the teacher is doing her best to make her feel welcome and part of the group, though everything seems strange and awkward to Tara. Two weeks of warp travel from Phoenix, the away team has crash landed on the planet's surface. They've passed through the event horizon and it's possible they are no longer in they're current time. A rough crash landed left a range of injuries amongst the small crew, peaking with Ensign Bok's death. A few of them have left the shuttle to survey their surroundings, while others deal with damage control and repair.
The
news of war has finally been announced. Commodore T'Rin has informed
Command that, in compliance with the Horizon treaty, The Federation is
supporting the Romulans and going to war with the Cardassian Union. The
Command staff is discussing preparations and ways to handle this new
situation and the civilian populace.
Dr. Tigarak has been sent to the brig – yet again- as the main suspect in an attack against the COO, Belasco Delacruz. However the investigation is still ongoing, and the Dr's fate lies in the hands of Security and Medical. An away team has been assembled and is ready to leave on a scientific mission to a nearby planet, where signs of an ancient civilization have been detected. Jundua Glucon and a civilian merchant named Reng, have traced recent True Way activity to a possible infiltrated agent. And in a possibly related incident, an internal security officer, Tuck Moragansen attacked Liana Forrest and the Deltan Delius. However, his attempt to leave with the Deltan was frustrated. A cloaked shuttle was detected, and soon went into warp… But it was leaking plasma so it should be possible to follow it. Throughout the rest of the station life goes on, but the drums of war can be heard on the horizon.
After
a farewell dinner aboard the USS Discovery in which promotions were
handed out, Phoenix has returned to `normal'. Some reconstruction
efforts are still ongoing, but the station and its inhabitants are fine
and well. People are going about their daily lives.
Commodore T'Rin has arrived on the Phoenix, and has invited the command staff, along with York, to a private dinner aboard the VSV Observance. During the course of dinner, T'Rin revealed that she has been put in charge of Federation/Rebel relations in the quadrant. After a short discussion, she elects Phoenix as her base of operations, and York whom had yet to be assigned a position, is appointed as her aide. Commander tra'Fitz and civilian liaison Jundua Glucon have incurred in some interesting conversations as well. The CO has proposed that the Promenade formally apply for Independence, and the establishment of its own government, led by none else that Ms. Glucon herself. However, Ms. Glucon is hesitant to accept the position, due to a certain contract possessed by Kristoph. The contract details that the man bought Jundua from her grandfather, and is now the part Ferrengi woman's owner. Ms. Glucon must solvent this situation if she is to indeed assume the public position. Dr. Tigarak, and his twin brother Narke have reunited, and all seems well… However, something dark lurks in the back of Narke's mind… And it's spreading, beginning with Lt. T'nor, a Vulcan officer. Major Hidalgo, after noticing her absence –especially during the attack- has gone looking for clues on Constable Rebecca Shumar's whereabouts. After coming up with nothing, he decides to go to the person closest to her, Nathaniel Dane. He finds Dane in a very emotional state, and gets into a heated discussion. After tempers cool, Dane gives the XO the key to Shumar's quarters, and says he'll consider helping him. Meanwhile, Commander Jensen has been put in the brig, where he awaits his court martial. Accompanying him in the cell, is Dr. Mike Campbell who has been arrested for stabbing a man. However, it seems not all is as simple. Apparently Narke Tigarak isn't the only one with something inside his head. All these stories are unfolding, as the clouds of war seem to gather in the distance. It is the calm before the storm.
In
the aftermath of the total loss of the Yamamoto the station was in
emergency operations mode. Teams were providing search, rescue, and aid
services from the Promenade to Engineering, on the Rock, in local
space, and everywhere in between. In the midst of this chaos, Commander
Jensen made the last move in his plot to take Command of the station
away from Ssova tra'Fitz. However, the trap that was ultimately sprung
was on him. It was revealed that tactical officer Lt. Joe Morelli, whom
Jensen had enlisted in his plot, was none other than XO Major Caleb
Hidalgo whose death had been faked months before as part of Ssova's
plot to give Jensen enough rope to hang himself. Jensen was
quickly taken into custody, and is being held pending the normalization
of the situation on Phoenix, and the filing of charges towards a Court
Martial. With that, Ssova resumed command of the station, Caleb was
reinstated as XO, and the work of crisis response continued.
Within a couple days, much sought-after help came with the arrival of the USS Discovery and Lexington, whose crews immediately jumped into the effort, and who were vital in preventing further loss of life, especially when a 'rogue' group of Cardassian cruisers appeared looking to pick over the station's remains. For now, efforts are starting to move from search and rescue to recovery and rebuilding as everyone takes stock of what was lost, and where they go now.
The
Yamamoto is gone, victim of a plot by the True Way to destabilize the
Delta Quadrant while the Romulan Empire is in chaos, perhaps with the
goal on insuring that the Federation doesn't meddle in the affairs of
Ch'Rihan. Commander tra'Fitz was seriously wounded as the antimatter
explosion on Yamamtoto shook the entire station. He's now in sickbay,
and the conniving Commander Jensen is making his final moves towards
taking over command of the station for good. Elsewhere, emergency
response is ongoing. Leading merchant Jundua Glucon is leading the
efforts on the Promenade, and the medical staff has been working
overtime everywhere. On the Rock, Lt. Col. Haven has also been injured,
and Lt. Cmd. Storm almost lost his squadron to the explosion while they
were out on a training flight. Everything is in chaos, and it remains
to be seen whether Phoenix will survive.
At
1731 hours local time on Stardate 2405.11, the
USS Yamamoto suffered a catastrophic cascade failure of her anti-matter containment systems. In the brief time allowed them between initial indications of the problem, and the cataclysm that followed, the station-keeping crew on board Yamamoto did their best to remove her to a safe distance before she exploded in an exothermic reaction on par with the planet-destroying weapons used by the Cardassians in the last war. 400 plus officers and crew on board the Yamamoto were reduced to subatomic particles instantly. The USS Griffin, her sister ship, was unfortunately stationed near enough to take the not insignificant forces of the shockwave, which overwhelmed the ship's artificial gravity, and subjected all her crew to acceleration in excess of 20 standard gravities, before breaking her apart. The asteroid Marine base known as The Rock was displaced from her orbit, and 31 members of her personnel were killed before the base could be brought under control. Due to the timely warnings of Yamamoto, and the sharp reactions of her CNC staff, Phoenix was able to raise shields in time to deflect the most serious damage. However, the station suffered the equivalent of a 6.5 magnitude, or greater, earthquake. Injuries and damage were suffered station-wide. The CO, Commander Ssova tra'Fitz was seriously hurt, and is currently out of commission. The acting CO, Commander Jensen, has initiated emergency procedures throughout the station. Any and all aid available from Starfleet bases and ships in the Delta Quadrant will be gratefully received. At this time, Security review of the incident, combined with intelligence received prior to the explosion, strongly suggests the group known as True Way was responsible for this attack, perhaps as part of a heightening of activity in conjunction with the current unrest within the Romulan Government. All Delta Quadrant facilities are encourage to mainting a heightened state of alert.
The
conflict between the CO and (acting) XO continues as sides become
better defined, and people decide which one they want to be on. The
Chief of Security and the Lead Counselor have had twins who, after a
little telepathic brain surgery to fix the infection of one with the
neuro-virus still carried by Lt. Kia Bensu, are healthy and happy.
Delius, the undercover Federation agent and rebel fugitive, confronted by a rebel agent, made contact with the XO of the Cromwell to find out if his long-lost love was still alive. A group of strangers started a party, and some trouble in the Cat & Mouse after one of them produced a document proving that he was legally married (by Ferrengi law) to civilian merchant, and current squeeze of the CMO, Jundua Glucon. A Vulcan diplomat has arrived to join the new Romulan Delegation. We have gained a new Tactical Officer, Internal Security Officer, and a new Doctor. And Raven Storm has returned after a long absence to one again command Phoenix's Wing.
Sides
are being drawn in the halls of command. Major Caleb Hidalgo,
the Executive Officer, has been lost while away on holiday, and in the
voice, Commander Jensen had manipulated his way into the position.
From there, he has started to put 'his own' people into key
positions. His plan: to push Ssova tra'Fitz off
Phoenix, and take Command for himself.
Ssova has had to react in kind. With the departure of Lt. Kluge, he put the Gorn Engineer G'ldraarg in as acting Chief Engineer. He has made Dr. Tigarak CMO. And he would feel confident about Security as well, if there wasn't evidence to suggest that Major Travian Loran may have been responsible for Molly Flanders' death. Apart from the political battles being wages, many personal ones are as well. Delius and Liana have had a strange visitor in their hiding space, who may bode ill for on or the other. Dr. Tigarak has likewise had a surprise, and the usually jovial Mike Campbell may be in a fight for his sanity. There is also the impending wedding of Major Travian and Lt. Bensu, and the birth of their child. The wedding guests are starting to arrive, each with their own surprises as well. Stay tuned!
Sometimes,
not everthing goes right.
On the positive side, the USS Griffin was able to save the inhabitents of two quadrants of the dyson sphere. Sadly, the third race died due to the sudden and rapid temperature changes that occured when the internal sun went out. Almost more tragic though, because of the personal nature of the loss, was the death of Lt. Molly Flanders at the hands of the superstitions and violent second race. Her loss has reverberated throughout the Phoenix community, not the least to its Commanding Officer, who had been a close, personal friend. The Griffin has returned home now, to friends and families, to heal wounds and hopefully return to normal. But not everything is well on Phoenix. The Fleet Liaison Officer, Commander Jensen is causing more trouble, even as his prisoner, the lost rebel officer Delius has escaped with the civilian doctor, Liana Forrest. Trouble is brewing at the very heart of the station.
The USS Griffin has arrived at the Sphere, and much to their surprise they’ve encountered a small rudimentary vessel exiting the sphere through a large hole left by a collision with a meteor long ago. The small vessel has been brought aboard, and contact has been made with what could be described as a race of intelligent, steampunk, lemur-like creatures! After a misunderstanding ignited a small confrontation between both crews, things have been resolved and preparations are being made to enter the sphere and come in contact with all 3 races inhabiting the inside.
Currently the USS Griffin is en route to the rogue Dyson sphere, and two teams are discussing the technical aspects of the sphere and the best way of contacting the inhabitants. Soon they'll arrive and the real excitement will begin!
A rogue Dyson sphere is passing through the neighborhood. It's smaller that other observed spheres, and has a self-contained 'mini-sun' rather than a fixed star at its center, but it looks like the reactor is ready to give out. An away-team is taking the USS Griffin to check it out, make contact with the inhabitants, and see if there is anything we can do to help.
Phoenix is finally back in its proper time frame, cleaning up, and recovering from the experience.
The Enterprise has departed back to the Alpha Quadrant, but they left a few people behind who historical record said should have died in the 'accident' near the 'spacial anomaly.' Moire' and Del have been reunited, and are trying to sort out what's next for them, now that they are out from under the thumb of the Romulan Ambassador. Cat's has reopened under new management (and with a new name), and the station and her crew are about to take the first step towards getting back to the 25th century - leaping BACK 150,000 years! What will they find? What adventures lay in store? Tune in!
Currently, the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike has been rescued from Romulan Warbirds, and brought to Phoenix. The Captain, his Vulcan Science Officer, and their CMO have come aboard to meet the CO and XO, and a number of critically wounded crew were transferred to Phoenix's Sickbay. This has resulted in the ticklish situation of a number of Enterprise people who were listed as having died 150 years in Phoenix's past, actually surviving – including Dr. Paula Demaine, a first contact specialist. If the Phoenix scientists ever figure out how to get the station back to its proper time, Dr. Demaine is going to have a very difficult choice – either return to Enterprise, and risk damaging history, or embarking on a strange journey into the future with a Federation that has evolved a long ways in the interim.
The entire station, plus the Rock (Marine Base) and a number of civilian craft have been translocated in time to the period, nearly 150 year before, when a Federation ship (the Enterprise, under Chris Pike) first came through the Alpha wormhole.
Currently, the Internal Security Officer (Marine Captain Caleb Hidalgo) has been cleared of the murder of the wealthy industrialist. Phoenix's resident 'ghost' (Moire' Fletcher, former XO of the S'Task) was the only eyewitness to the murder, but could not formally testify as she is a fugitive from both the Romulan Empire and the Federation. However, the Executive Officer (Lt. Cdr. Ssova tra'Fitz) has sworn an oath to help her however he can. Fletcher found the true murderer's picture in Phoenix's personnel database, and went to get a look for herself, but was caught by the sociopathic marine (a friend of Hidalgo's, in a position to know his story and use it in framing the Security Officer). However, tra'Fitz and the Marine CO (Captain Travian Loran) learn where Fletcher has gone, follow her, and confront the true murderer.
Currently, the Internal Security Officer is being held on suspicion of murdering a wealthy industrialist who happens to be the man who killed the officer's brother a decade before. All evidence points towards Caleb Hidalgo – except the eyewitness testimony of a woman living as an unofficial ghost in the tubes and passageways of Phoenix. She can't testify, because she'd be arrested and turned back over to the Romulan Ambassador who owns her after she resigned her Starfleet Commission and her Federation citizenship. But she can't let an innocent man be blamed for a cold-blooded murder she witnessed! What will happen?? Stay Tuned!!
Characters are still dealing with the aftermath of the insidious attack by the previously unknown species who call themselves the Dodec. They had infected Phoenix with a nano-biological weapon that drove people psychotic by generating new, alien neurons in their brains. This was merely the prelude to a full-scale military attack, but succeeded in generating a number of interesting and frightening subplots, including one serial killer, and the kidnapping of the Executive Officer and Assistant Ops Officer by a gang of 'xeno-cannibals.' The station continues to repair and rebuild from the last, all-out space battle where only the last-minute discovery of a counter-agent to the alien madness was able to mobilize enough sane people to defend Phoenix, and defeat the pathalogically aggressive Dodec. But we fear this will not be the last we see of them.
The madness is taking over. A mysterious insanity is working its way through the station, and things are only getting worse. Riots on the promenade; cannibals in engineering; and a serial killer who seems to move around the station like a ghost, killing horribly, and without warning. Security has declared martial law, Science and Medical are working feverishly to find a cure, and up in Command and Control, a ticking time-bomb has his fingers on all the station's weapons. What more could go wrong? Well, there's this hostile fleet hiding just a few light years away, waiting for just the right moment to attack. Tune in next month, for the exciting conclusion!
