We are a cooperative science fiction writing group based in Gene Roddenberry's universe of Star Trek. We use a traditional freestyle form of writing in the past tense, third-person point of view, focusing on character and story development. Our forum is a PBEM venue and authors are encouraged to engage in their own narrative prose through the development of subplots and independent storytelling. This creative writing campaign promotes writing skill, thoughtful story design, and mutual respect for contributing authors as well as their characters. The USS Discovery - NCC 75453, is the first of the Discovery-class vessels, designed with the specific intent of furthering exploration in the Delta Quadrant. The ship boasts a crew compliment of 400, and state-of-the-art technology. Our timeline is set some 30+ years after the USS Voyager returned to Earth. A PBEM is an acronym for "Play-By-E-Mail." Put simply, players add to the main storyline by sending e-mail messages to a mail list (such as Yahoo! Groups) that explains their characters' actions or responses to an environment set by the Game Manager. This form of storytelling allows players to spend time crafting their messages before sending it to the rest of the players. Therefore, we find it an ideal forum for individuals who enjoy thinking their way through a plot and coming up with creative responses to the actions of other players. USS Discovery is a proud member of Borderlands: Federation & Empire, a play by email RPG organization based on the Star Trek genre. USS Discovery operates under the auspices of Borderlands.
